Samuel Lowe Harris, JR.

SAMUEL LOWE HARRIS, JR. 92, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away December 7th, 2018 after a brief illness at National Park Medical Center.  He was born on May 21, 1926 to Samuel and Margaret Harris, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Mr. Harris was a pilot in the United States Naval Air Corp. and served his country during World War II.  After his time in the service, he earned a B.S. degree in engineering from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, later receiving a J.D. in 1951 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, Norman, Oklahoma.  Mr. Harris also received a Graduate School of Banking Degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1971. Mr. Harris was a member of the Illinois and Rock Island County Bar Associations.

Upon graduation from the University of Oklahoma, Mr. Harris became a landman for the Carter Oil Company, working in Billings, Montana, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and Casper, Wyoming, where he was involved in the preparation and approval of operating agreements with respect to producing fields.

In 1963, he moved to Danville, Illinois, where he served as Trust Officer and Vice President of the Second National Bank of Danville.  In 1968, he moved to Moline, Illinois, where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Moline National Bank. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Moline National Bank, Second National Bank of Danville, and the First National Bank of Quincy.

Additionally, he served as a Trustee of Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, Illinois, and a member of the President’s Council of the University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois.  Mr. Harris was very active in community affairs, serving on the Boards of Moline Public Hospital, Upper Rock Island County Family YMCA, Junior Achievement, Quad City Development Groups, Moline Chamber of Commerce, and the Boy Scouts of America.  He also served as President of the Outing Club of Davenport, Iowa.

After relocation to Hot Springs Village, Mr. Harris served as President of the Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association and Treasurer of the Hot Springs Village Ambulance Association.

Mr. Harris was an avid golfer and fisherman.  He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Kathleen Harris, Hot Springs Village, AR, daughters, Pamela Harris, Hot Springs Village, AR, Betsy Williams (Harry), Gibsonia, PA, Susan Orth (Michael), Milan, IL, and son, Samuel L. Harris III (Gina), Bentonville, AR, his grandsons, Harry M. Williams, Timothy L. Williams, Samuel L. Harris IV, Matthew F. Orth and Jacob L. Orth, and his beloved nieces and nephews.

The family intends to have a memorial for Mr. Harris in 2019 at Table Rock Lake, Missouri, where the family will celebrate his life at its 50th annual family reunion.
